Cartridge seals are very stiff and solid sealing systems. They are used for very heavy-duty applications in dirty environments, e.g. in commercial vehicles, material handling equipment and agricultural, forestry and construction machinery.

Functionality

Cartridge seals are completely enclosed and inside form a grease-filled maze with several sealing and dirty lips (radial and axial). The main sealing lip is spring powered. This effectively prevents the ingress of dirt, mud, water and dust. Filling with grease reduces wear, extends service life and therefore extends service intervals in difficult conditions. Cartridge seals also include a fully machined contact surface. This means that the shaft does not need to be specially hardened and grounded. Additional seals are also not required.
