The history of TRW dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the Cleveland Cap Screw Company was founded in Cleveland, initially producing screws. In 1904, on the initiative of a welder, Charles Thompson, the plant began producing valves for car engines. It turned out to be a hit, Thompson later became general manager, and the plant was eventually renamed Thompson Products. In 1958, it merged with Ramo-Wooldridge to form TRW Inc.
