Knott ETS Plus Driving Stability System 1401-1800 kg Knott ETS Plus Driving Stability System 1401-1800 kg

Knott ETS Plus Driving Stabilization System 1401-1800 kg single axle.

The new ETS braking system not only keeps the trailer on track, but revolutionizes trailer steering technology.

Knott is testing an electronic stabilization system, or ETS for short, that combines electronic and hydraulic components.

ETS

The new solution is intended to ensure safety by increasing braking efficiency and stabilizing the trailer's driving path. Such a system will respond faster and more precisely than the previously used inertial braking system. According to data from tests commissioned by the manufacturer, the electronically regulated brake, which is part of the ETS system, allows you to stop a vehicle with a trailer weighing 2.8 tons traveling at a speed of 60 km/h after 29.60 meters. This is a full seven meters less than the same vehicle-trailer combination with a well-adjusted mechanical overrun brake needed during the test. ETS supports, for example, self-adjusting wheel brakes or electronically controlled automatic reverse driving. It will also be possible to monitor the brake in various trailer load states.

Operation

The operating principle uses hydraulic pressure created by an electrically powered pump. In order to create such a system, the overrun braking system was rebuilt. It was enriched with acceleration sensors, a set of valves, a pump and a hydraulic shock absorber, a computer and a stabilizing hitch with a pressing device. A small pump constantly provides sufficient pressure to quickly apply the brake, reducing energy requirements. Therefore, the system is sufficiently powered by electricity from the passenger car installation. The Knott system stabilizes longitudinal fluctuations by quickly building up pressure and monitoring it in the braking system. If the sensors in the trailer recognize the beginning of the swinging movement, the hydraulic system immediately transfers pressure to the brakes and thus stabilizes the car-trailer combination. The system monitors the speed of all trailer wheels. If one wheel is about to lock, ETS reduces the braking pressure and increases it again if necessary, just like ABS in a car. ETS also helps when driving in reverse. If the system detects reverse wheel movement, it automatically unlocks the brakes, and when the wheels move forward, the system is ready to brake again. The ETS system enables automatic adjustment and adjustment of the brake. The system includes an electronically controlled stabilizing hitch, which reduces coupling wear and prevents noise (ball knocking), also due to the use of friction elements with variable ball pressure. The driver controls all functions of the device (including faults) thanks to a small indicator that receives signals from the trailer's electronic system via radio. If the ETS fails, the conventional overrun brake continues to function and operates independently of the electronics.
