Sikaflex 221 ADHESIVE AND SEALANT WITH A WIDE RANGE OF ADHESION
Capacity: 300ml Color: White Quantity: 1 pc.
Sikaflex-221 is a high-quality, universally applicable, highly adhesive, flexible one-component polyurethane sealant. Under the influence of ambient moisture, it hardens into an elastomer. Suitable for making permanent elastic seals.
APPLICATION
Sikaflex-221 is a suitable material for making flexible, durable and highly adhesive seals. Materials that can be effectively and permanently sealed and joined together in various configurations are: ordinary steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, wood, ceramic materials, glass, plastics.
Due to the possibility of cracking stresses in transparent and pigmented materials, manufacturers' recommendations should be followed. Test on actual substrates and conditions to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.
PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
single-component
flexible
odorless
resistant to weather conditions
not causing corrosion phenomena
suitable for painting, sanding, mechanical processing shows good adhesion to various materials
approved for use in contact with food (NSF approval)
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Sikaflex-221 is generally resistant to fresh and sea water, diluted acids and alkalis, temporarily resistant to fuels, mineral oils, vegetable and animal fats, not resistant to organic acids, glycols, concentrated mineral acids and alkalis and solvents.
APPLICATION METHOD
Preparation surfaces
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil and dust.
Application
Sikaflex-221 can be applied at temperatures between 5 °C and 40 °C but changes in reactivity and application properties should be taken into account. The optimal ambient and sealant temperature is between 15 °C and 25 °C.
Sikaflex-221 can be applied with a manual, pneumatic or electric piston gun.
Smoothing and finishing
Smoothing must be done before the sealer has developed a skin. The use of Sika® Tooling Agent N for smoothing is recommended. Other smoothing agents must be previously tested for suitability and compatibility.
Removal
Uncured Sikaflex-221 can be removed from equipment and tools with Sika®Remover-208 or another suitable solvent . Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin should be washed immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H wipes or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin!
Painting
Sikaflex-221 is best painted after the skin has formed. The adhesion of coatings can be improved by activating the joint surface with Sika Aktivator-100 or Sika Aktivator-205 before painting. If the painting process requires baking (>80 °C), it is best to perform this process after the sealant has fully hardened. All coatings must be verified by performing preliminary tests under production conditions.
The elasticity of paint coatings is usually lower than that of sealants. This may lead to cracks in the coating on the sealing surface.
