The main task of the new electromechanical AL-KO Trailer Control ATC system is to control and improve driving conditions, which is assumed to be quite a heavy set consisting of a car and a caravan or cargo trailer. ATC is quite simple, yet brilliant, as it constantly monitors the stability of the vehicle you are driving, preventing it from skidding or bobbing.

Why use ATC?

The system constantly monitors the trailer's driving conditions on the road. When it detects increasing lateral deflection of the trailer, it gently brakes the trailer you are driving. You may encounter quite dangerous situations on the road when the trailer comes into contact with strong winds that cause it to sway or a wet road surface, when it is easy for the massive trailer to tilt. You may encounter similarly undesirable vehicle reactions when passing an obstacle. The automatic anti-skid system ATC registers every unwanted and incorrect deflection of the trailer, preventing it from skidding. It starts immediately and gently brakes the vehicle being driven - ensuring your safety and the safety of other road users.

Principle of operation of ATC

ATC is equipped with a system of sensors that control the position and movement of the trailer while driving and, if necessary, generate a signal informing about stability at a given moment. Al-KO ATC is an anti-skid emergency safety system that connects to the car via normal 12S and 12N connection cables. ATC is connected to the distribution box in the trailer and while driving, it draws direct current from the positive of the 13-pin plug. When the system is 'connected', AL-KO ATC automatically starts the 'pre-flight' test. When this test is complete, you will notice that the LED lights on the overrun device change color from red to green. This informs you that the trailer monitoring system is 'ready for travel'.

The complete ATC sensor system, electronic control and the electric motor for activating the brakes are housed in a compact housing, which can be installed at the rear of the axle with relatively little effort, connected to the brakes and the trailer's electrical circuit - the power source (13-pole plug).

After connecting the plug to the car's socket, the ATC system automatically performs a test: it applies the brakes once, checks the sensors and checks the correct operation of the system. Additionally, a diode mounted on the overrun device shows the readiness of the system. However, a wireless ATC-Display can be installed in the car cabin, which monitors the operation of the system.

Advantages of the ATC system

ATC is an emergency control system and becomes active automatically when the vehicle-trailer combination is in a critical situation, that is, when the swinging movements of the trailer reach a dangerous level. While sitting in the car, you will feel its effect as a gentle braking of the set. It is worth emphasizing here that the braking operation lasts only a few seconds. This is enough time to regain control and bring the car and trailer back to a safe driving condition. ATC is irreplaceable when you encounter unevenness or difficult driving conditions related to wet road surfaces - to sum up, it will work perfectly in all conditions and in all road situations. AL-KO ATC prevents the trailer from skidding. ATC, the AL-KO stabilization system, can be additionally used with the trailer's ESP system, which is offered by some car sellers.
