The safety skid is a protection that immediately disables the stationary engine, outboard engine or scooter water in a dangerous situation (e.g. in the event of falling overboard).

The skidder should be attached to the ignition cut-off device (usually mounted in the handle), and the other end should be placed on the hand or attached to the helmsman's clothing using a carabiner.
