The first steps of the Sachs company date back to 1895. The name of the company comes from the name of one of the founders, Ernst Sachs, who is mainly known for inventing the bicycle torpedo. Next to Sachs, Karl Fichtel became the second owner of the company. From the very beginning, the company specialized in the production of the highest quality car parts. In 1929, it was decided to expand the offer in terms of drive units, clutches and shock absorbers. These activities have made Sachs one of the most renowned manufacturers of car clutches and shock absorbers in the world. In 1959, it was decided to open the first factory in South America (Brazil). In later years, representative offices and factories were opened mainly in the United States and South America. In 2001, the Sachs brand was taken over by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, which bought a majority stake in Sachs.

Sachs is part of the ZF Group, which produces and supplies components mainly for passenger cars, but also for other machines such as commercial vehicles, trucks and helicopters.
