By rotating the rotary encoder, you can count in the positive and reverse direction while rotating the output pulse frequency, unlike the counting of the rotary potentiometer, the counting of revolutions is not limited. Using the buttons on the rotary encoder, you can reset it to the initial state, which starts counting from 0.

How it works:

The incremental encoder is to shift the rotary pulse signal to a series of digital rotary sensors. These pulses are used to control the angular displacement. In the Eltra angular displacement encoder, the conversion using the principle of photoelectric scanning. The reading system with an alternating light-transmitting window and a window does not consist of a radial indexing disk (code wheel) of a rotating base, while being a source of infrared light irradiating light vertically to the image of the code disk for reception on the surface. The receiver is covered with a diffraction grating that has the same width of the code disk window. The receiver's task is to sense the rotation of the disk that causes changes and convert the light into the corresponding electrical changes. Then the low-level signals reach a higher level and do not generate interference square-wave pulses that need to be processed by electronic circuits. Reading systems usually use a differential method, more or less the same, but the phase difference of the two waveforms is 180° different from the signal to improve the quality and stability of the output signal. The reading is then the difference between the two signals formed on the base, thereby eliminating interference.
